A bakkie loaded with dog and cat food departed from Spar Strubens Valley earlier in October, courtesy of a generous community with a high consideration for animals. Its destination was Friends of Rescued Animals (FORA).
The food was kindly donated by the retailer and its caring and generous customers from the Strubens Valley, Little Falls and Wilgeheuwel areas.
Animal lover, Jill Burrows worked together with Spar owner Charlotte Ramarumo to ensure that the food was available and handed over to FORA.
“The pet food collection has been around for five year now and is still going strong. Everybody has been very helpful.
“Charity is already entrenched in the community. I think everybody is happy to make a small donation to animals and make a difference in the world we live in,” said Charlotte.
FORA is a shelter for unwanted dogs and cats, and adheres to a pro quality of life policy and operate on the principles of rescue, rehabilitate and rehome (the three Rs).
The shelter is a charity organisation located at 1A Windsor Rd, Luipaardsvlei in Krugersdorp and at present they are looking after 350 dogs and 80 cats.
According to Jill, she has been connected to FORA in Krugersdorp North for ten years and became more involved since she retired from her job.
“The owner of Spar Strubens Valley gave me permission to carry on collecting pet food in the FORA charity trolley at the store after they recently took over from the previous owners.
“The residents from this and surrounding areas have been absolutely fantastic with their donations,” said Jill.
